Project cargo: out-of-gauge and oversized loads, planned per movement.

Out-of-gauge, oversized and overweight loads fit no standard trailer or timetable. Each is planned on its own, the route, permits and securing settled before it moves, for oil and gas, industrial OEM and similar projects where one component can be the whole shipment.

Service capabilities

A project move starts with the cargo. Our team studies the route and the abnormal-load rules for each country it crosses, then works out the permits, pilot vehicle services and additional escort arrangements where applicable, and how it will be lifted, secured and carried. All of that is settled before we quote. The same office stays on the job from that first study through to delivery, so once the load is running you are still talking to the people who designed the route. Project cargo runs as part of our road-freight work and leans on a network of nominated specialist carriers, which is how a load too large for a standard service still gets moved.

What this service supports

Suitable for…

Oil and gas, energy, mining and industrial OEM project shipments.

Shipment profile

Out-of-gauge, oversized or overweight components and machinery.

Operational focus

Route study, permits, escorts, loading supervision and securing.

Typical use case

A load your usual carrier cannot take because of its size or weight.

Experience across sectors and consignment types

Eurogate has experience supporting customers across a wide range of sectors, from food and packaging through to packed chemicals, construction equipment and specialist consignments outside standard pallet formats. The Group also has a strong track record supporting sectors such as oil and gas, engineering, steel fabrication and energy.

How Eurogate delivers this service

Eurogate’s services are delivered through experienced teams who manage lanes across their regions, coordinate between markets where required, and support customers from collection to delivery. That includes customs management, local market guidance, and direct communication throughout the movement.

Route and feasibility study

Before a price is set, we map the corridor, check axle and height limits, and confirm the abnormal-load rules for every country the load passes through.

Permits and escorts arranged

Our team procures the out-of-gauge permits and books pilot or escort vehicles where the load requires them, and provides clear lead times.

Carrier and equipment selection

We match the load to the right trailer, from low-loaders to multi-axle units, drawing on vetted specialist carriers for moves beyond our own gear.

One office, start to finish

The office that plans the move supervises loading, secures the cargo and follows it in transit, so you deal with the team that built the route.

The structure depends on the route, the consignment and the level of support required. Features may include the following.

Out-of-gauge and oversized loads
Route surveys and permits
Low-loaders and multi-axle trailers
Escort and pilot arrangements
Loading supervision and securing
Specialist carrier network

Food and perishables

Project work in this sector is uncommon. Where a food plant needs a large piece of process equipment installed, the same route study, permits and securing plan apply, built around that one component.

What sets our service apart

Speed matters in logistics. We’ve built our operation around getting your cargo where it needs to go without delay, backed by terminals positioned across eight nations and staffed by people who know the work.

Planning before pricing

Route study, permits and risk checks come first, so the cost is known before you commit.

Country-by-country rules

We work to each country’s abnormal-load rules, so borders clear before the load arrives.

Reach beyond our own gear

When a load runs past our own gear, nominated specialist carriers take it the rest of the way.

FAQs

What counts as project cargo or heavy-lift freight?

Project cargo is any load that does not fit a standard trailer or a standard schedule: out-of-gauge, overweight, or heavy-lift components and machinery that need engineering rather than a price list. Typical examples are oil and gas modules, mining and telecoms equipment, and industrial OEM components. Each move is planned around the cargo, not booked off a rate sheet.

What is your heavy-haulage and out-of-gauge capability?

We move oversize and overweight loads on multi-axle trailers and low-loaders, with the route, the lifting plan, and the securing method worked out before the cargo is loaded. For lifts beyond our own equipment we draw on vetted heavy-lift partners, and the operator who builds the plan stays on the job daily once the load is moving.

Are you a member of PCN and HLPFI project networks?

Yes. Eurogate is a member of the Project Cargo Network (PCN), Heavy-Lift Project Forwarding International (HLPFI), and XLP. These memberships give us vetted heavy-lift and out-of-gauge partners worldwide, so a move can extend well beyond our own offices and equipment when a project needs it.

Do you handle route surveys, permits and escorts?

Yes. Out-of-gauge permits, axle-load calculations, and escort or pilot arrangements are organised in-house by our project team, with the lead time told to you honestly up front. We plan the corridor before we price it, so the load is not held at a border, and we bring in external surveyors at loading where the cargo calls for it.

Which sectors do you move project cargo for?

Oil and gas, mining, telecoms, energy, and industrial OEM are the most frequent, alongside construction machinery and building components. Much of the work begins from a technical drawing rather than a packing list, so the plan is built around the component, its weight, and its loading requirements from the start.

Can project cargo move multi-modal, by road, sea and air combined?

Yes. A single project can combine road, sea, and air legs, with heavy-lift and out-of-gauge cargo moving by sea where the dimensions require it. One operator coordinates the modes, the permits, and the lifting points so the handovers between them are planned, not improvised. For the ocean leg of an oversized or breakbulk move, see the Sea Freight page.
